An Equipment Operator II for the Sewers Program operates one or more types of heavy automotive equipment. An employee in this class exercises considerable skill in manipulating heavy motor equipment while paying constant attention to safety of operation to prevent accidents. Assignments are outlined in detail by supervisors. Standard procedures are followed, and work is inspected periodically for safety and economy of operation. This class differs from that of Equipment Operator I in that it requires a higher degree of skill and greater consequence of error in the form of damage to more expensive equipment. An incumbent in this class leads the work of Laborers.
Opportunity
- Supervises a small crew in clean up details, or special events.
- Operates a snowplow and salt spreader.
- Operates a backhoe in Maintenance & Construction of roads and sewer lines.
- Operates a sewer jetter & flusher in cleaning sewer lines.
- Operates a Vac-All in cleaning catch basins.
- Operates TV Truck in inspection of sewer lines.
- Operates a dump truck or loader in the removal of snow, debris, and brush.
- Trains Operator I, and Motor Vehicle Operators in the operation of the equipment.
- Operates a variety of heavy equipment in cleaning and hauling snow from roads and streets.
- Keeps equipment clean, makes minor repairs and reports any malfunctions of equipment to fleet management shop.
- Responds to emergency or special events activity as needed;
- Performs related work as required.

Minimum & Additional Requirements
High School Diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; at least two years of experience driving related equipment in the field of Solid Waste; ability to demonstrate supervisory skills; must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the state of residence with all applicable endorsements; thorough knowledge of traffic safety rules and regulations; must be able to read and comprehend technical materials and evaluate work orders; must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, and the physical ability to perform job tasks under all types of weather conditions.
